Author Spotlight: Terri A. Johnson

Welcome to my Stories and Lessons Blog, Terri. Please tell my readers about your new release. What’s the main storyline?

Patience is my latest novel. It’s also a journey that’s granted from God. It’s a virtue that I knew I needed God to instill in my heart. Every challenge agitated me down to my soul. As a Christian, I knew God wasn’t pleased with my reactions to obstacles that confronted me. I prayed for patience. I fasted for patience. And as we all know, God grants us the desires of our hearts. But let’s be clear, when we ask for what we want, God will put us to the test to ensure we’re ready to manage receiving it. After all, we can’t ask for bigger when it’s the “little” that buries us.

During this time, my biggest desire was motherhood. As a single woman, I wasn’t sure how that would happen, but I had role models that God purposely placed in my life to plant the seed of adoption. And in His infinite wisdom, our Holy Father used my desire to become a mother to teach me patience. This story chronicles almost a decade and a whole lot of faith and perseverance on my incredible path to becoming a mother. I highlight a few biblical adoption stories to emphasize lessons of faith. Laughter is good for the soul, and I hope it resonates throughout. Patience is book seven of nine in the Merry Hearts Inspirational Series, focusing on various topics that lead to spiritual growth.

What prompted you to write this story at this time?
This story has been on my heart for over ten years. The journey to motherhood was a long road, filled with peaks and valleys. As I wrote, God filled my heart with transparency because without it there cannot be transformation.

I wanted to chronicle this journey for my son. This is a story that he, his children and even their children can read to learn life lessons on patience and perseverance while waiting on God to give you what He promised. But, equally important, I wanted to raise awareness around the subject of adoption, and to encourage single men and women to consider as a vehicle to parenthood.

Do you normally write non-fiction?
Actually this was my first non-fiction work. I love crafting inspirational romance spotlighting everyday people embroiled in not-so-ordinary circumstances. I pray that my readers not only get lost between the pages but are inspired by them.

Lastly, what’s an enduring lesson you’ve learned from being a storyteller?
An enduring lesson that I’ve learned from being a storyteller is to paint the picture for your readers so that they see, hear, smell, taste and feel the same things that your characters do.
